Raider's Sire - Maximilian
Ancestry of Color Raider appears to have inherited from both sire & dam, a beautiful head and an aptitude to reproduce colorful offspring (even when bred to a white dam). In the fashion of his sire, Maximilian and grandsire, Aureo -- Raider has sired many blue ribbon winners and continues to uphold honor to his pedigree!
Awards won:
3rd Place - 2002 AOBA National Conference (youngest in the class, 6 mos. old) 2nd Place - 2003 MAPACA Jubilee Full Fleece Halter (shown with only 10 months of fleece re-growth in the full fleece competition.).
Raider's 2010 regrowth - Independently locked to the skin
Raider's exquisitely fine and lustrous fiber - 2010 regrowth
Raider is a gorgeous full Peruvian bay black herdsire with beautiful locks, high luster, excellent conformation and a magnificent head -- traits that are passed to his offspring. (Raider's offspring tend to inherit Raider's distinctive lock style - tightly twisted to the skin, yet "supple like butter". Also, Raider's pedigree is loaded with color; his true black sire, Maximilian is from the Aureo bloodline and his dam, Maranta, is dark colored with a beautiful head -- both of which have produced numerous colored offspring. Raider is the dominant herdsire at our farm and he was an early breeder; therefore, his progeny will most likely be very fertile, early breeders as well. See photos of offspring (below). * In 2006, Judge Tim Lavan commented that Raider was a "very nice herdsire". Tim expressed very positive impressions specifically of Raider's strong lock definition (tightly twisted regrowth after numerous years of shearing) and remarkably fine & dense black fiber with high luster.
Fiber Analysis (at approximately two years old):
Average fiber diameter: 18.0 microns Standard deviation: 4.5 microns Coefficient of variation: 24.9% Fibers greater than 30 microns: 2.3%.
This ultra-fine fiber quality is very rare in black suri fleece. Moreover, after many years of shearing, Raider's re-growth continues to form consistent, individual locks -- a trait that his offspring tend to inherit.
